Real estate veteran Sonya Conn joined the Modern Real Estate Team on May 1st, bringing to this dynamic, award-winning, collective over ten years of real estate experience and her extensive background in customer relations. She also enhances the Team with a mature perspective and invaluable local knowledge. Sonya has lived in Victoria for nearly 25 years, bringing up her three children in the Oak Bay community.
When asked why she chose to work with the Modern Real Estate Team, Sonya had this to say:
“The Modern Real Estate Team has a great reputation in the community, and I have been consistently impressed not just by their proven track record, but also their experience, skill and the young and vibrant energy this team of women radiates! It is a real honour for me to be joining this amazing collaborative group, and my clients will undoubtedly benefit immensely working with a fully supported team.”
Sonya also sees many striking similarities between herself and the other members of the team. She was attracted to their shared values and their integrity in business dealings, as well as their motivation to constantly improve themselves through further education. A major emphasis in the Modern Real Estate Team’s philosophy is community-building and philanthropy, and Sonya has truly embraced this aspect of team-building.
In November 2019, together with fellow Team member Saira Waters, Sonya will be taking on the Sahara Desert Challenge for Shelter, a 100-kilometre trek across the Sahara Desert to raise money for the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation. The Foundation raises awareness of and supports local women’s shelters and violence prevention programs throughout Canada, helping affected women and children by ensuring a safe place and support services when they need them. The Sahara Desert Challenge will be a gruelling 5-day hike across difficult terrain, with temperatures that fluctuate from hot and dry to close to freezing.
This is the first time Sonya has embarked on such a major fundraising effort. She has been preparing for this challenge by getting out and hiking whenever she is able, blessed as she is, with the great outdoors on Vancouver Island. In reaching her fundraising goals, Sonya recently organized a tennis marathon, where friends and supporters came out to play tennis with her husband, Michael Conn, for twelve hours straight. She is both proud and grateful to him for “rallying” her on!
Sonya’s commitment to the Desert Challenge exemplifies her dedication to her clients. Her joy of sharing knowledge with new and interesting people drives her to help both buyers and sellers to attain their real estate goals. With a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Anthropology from Carleton University, Sonya has been consistent in furthering her learning, getting her Realtor’s license in 2009 and becoming a Certified Negotiation Expert in 2017. She also earned a Master Sales Award in 2018. Accolades aside, Sonya believes in going above and beyond in her commitment to her clients and the causes close to her heart.
