It’s a brand new year and usually we use this as an excuse to change something in our lives whether it’s our routine, finances or happiness. Why? Each year we get older and we are always thinking about how we can improve our life on a daily basis. January 1st is the easiest day to say “I am going to… starting now.”
This year, let’s have fun making our resolutions and put a positive spin on them instead of the boring “go to the gym” or “give up bad habits”. These days our lives are full of distractions and technology beeping in our face, let’s take it back to basics with these top 5 unusual New Year’s Resolutions that we feel will enhance your lives or take you out of your comfort zone this year!
Take a photo of yourself in a new or interesting place each month!
This doesn’t mean you have to travel, spend some time in your own city and take a fun photo in a new spot each month. Let the creative juices flow for 30 minutes one Sunday each month. Collect all 12 photos and on December 31st you will feel you got out of your comfort zone and decided to see 12 new places that year.
Do something nice for someone each day.
Woah! This sounds like you have to do 365 things this year but just try it! This could be opening the door for someone, picking up that pencil your colleague dropped or giving a compliment. It feels good, it puts a smile on someone’s face which is very contagious and makes you think about how you treat others on a daily basis.
Sort out ONE financial worry this year.
Start the year off right and think about how you can reach your goal whether it’s small or big. Perhaps you’re spending a lot of money on take out or you want to save a small rainy day savings account? Think of some solutions to help you feel less stressed like bringing your own lunch to work or putting away $50 a month towards savings.
Make the usual unusual.
January usually means getting back into our normal routines with work and life in general. This year, spice it up a little and do one small thing differently in your normal routine each week. Run a different route in the morning, try a new type of tea or coffee or maybe you find an engaging article to read once a week that makes you happy.
Indulge in the small things!
Don’t postpone your happiness for that “special moment”. Do you have a candle you won’t burn because it’s too special? Or that expensive bottle of red wine or scotch that’s been sitting in your cupboard for a year because you’re waiting for a special moment to open it? Enjoy it now! Once a month enjoy something you may already have in your home that you think is special and live in the moment, you deserve it!
Have a great year everyone and we can't wait to see what it has in store for you!
